FM, US secretary of state discuss repercussions of US decision on Jerusalem

Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi late Monday, discussed with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the repercussions of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, that is considered by Jordan as a violation of the international law.

During a telephone conversation, Safadi briefed his US counterpart on the outcome of the Arab foreign ministers' meeting in Cairo, which discussed means to address the repercussions of the US decision on Jerusalem, and called on the United States to rescind the decision.

He said that the increase in tension and frustration will only serve extremists and their agenda, highlighting the need to achieve the two-state solution in line with the Arab Peace Initiative that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The foreign minister also made phone calls with the EU high representative for foreign affairs security policy, and the foreign ministers of Germany, France, Britain and Japan during which he reviewed with them consequences of the US decision.
